WASHINGTON (AP) — Secretary of State John Kerry is thanking Iran for ending what could have become a crisis. Iran released 10 U.S. sailors who'd been detained after their vessels entered Iranian waters. The White House says new lines of communication with Iran that were established during nuclear negotiations helped get the sailors released quickly.

WASHINGTON (AP) — South Carolina governor Nikki Haley says she is open to the idea of being the running mate to the Republican nominee for president. Speaking on NBC's Today show this morning, Haley said she's willing to have a conversation about running as vice president once a nominee is selected. She also said that in her rebuttal to the State of the Union last night, she was taking aim at Donald Trump, as well as other members in the party and in the media, when she called on Americans to resist "the siren call of the angriest voices."

ISTANBUL (AP) — Germany has sent a team of specialist investigators to Turkey following yesterday's blast in Istanbul in which 10 Germans were killed. A German Interior Ministry spokesman says it's "too early" to speculate about whether the Islamic State group was responsible for the attack in an area popular with tourists. But Turkey's prime minister has said the militant group carried out the attack. Turkish authorities have arrested one person suspected of being linked to the bombing.

NEW YORK (AP) — Stocks are opening higher, led by gains in oil and gas companies as the price of crude turns higher. There was also some better news out of China today as the government there reported that trade shrank at a lower rate. MetLife jumped 7 percent after the company said it plans to sell or spin off a large part of its life insurance business.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — The largest lottery jackpot in the world is up for grabs tonight in the latest Powerball drawing. The prize has climbed to an estimated $1.5 billion, easily surpassing all other lotteries. The jackpot estimate is reviewed daily, so it could increase before the drawing if ticket sales continue to exceed expectations. Lottery officials expect at least 80 percent of the 292 million number combinations will be purchased before the drawing.
