BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Christopher Hyder scored 18 points on 7-of-12 shooting and Southern held off Jackson State 74-66 on Monday.
Shawn Prudhomme had 14 points for the Jaguars (10-7, 2-2 Southwestern Athletic), while Rashad Andrews added 13 points. Jared Sam and Chris Thomas had nine rebounds apiece.
Jackson State (8-9, 3-1) was led by Chace Franklin with 24 points. Paris Collins had 15 points and Raeford Worsham added 11.
The teams were tied at 43 early in the second half. A 13-5 run by Southern put the Jaguars in control as they built a 12-point lead. Collins' layup with 1:34 left drew Jackson State to within four at 68-64, but Prudhomme responded with a dunk off an Andrews miss on the next possession and Jackson State got no closer than five down the stretch.
The teams were tied at 32 at the break.
