CHICAGO (AP) — Aly Ahmed scored 22 points and Cal State Bakersfield won its second-straight Western Athletic Conference game on the road to start its league season, holding off Chicago State, 67-56 Monday night.
The Roadrunners (12-5, 2-0) won at Missouri-Kansas City Saturday night.
Bakersfield build a 12-point lead in the first half, taking a 36-24 advantage into intermission.
Ahmed shot a crisp 8 of 10 from the field, hitting his lone 3-point attempt, and the Roadrunners shot 24 of 50 from the floor, but just 4 of 15 from long range. Dedrick Basile added 12 points and Damiyne Durham grabbed 10 rebounds.
The Cougars (4-14, 0-2) got 15 points off the bench from Kieran Woods and 11 from Clemmye Owens. Chicago State kept the game close with 11 steals and forcing 15 Bakersfield turnovers.
