CONVENT, La. (AP) — St. James Parish School Board member Tyler J. Jasmin has pleaded not guilty to a pharmacy shopping charge that stemmed from a Louisiana State Police investigation into his use of the same prescription several times last year.
The Advocate reports (http://bit.ly/1W0mH2U ) Jasmin, of Vacherie, entered the plea Monday before state District Judge Jessie LeBlanc in Convent. Neither Jasmin nor his attorney, Nghana Gauff, commented following the arraignment.
The Attorney General's Office charged him with one felony count of obtaining hydrocodone by fraud. If convicted, the 27-year-old faces up to five years in prison, a $50,000 fine and resignation from the School Board.
A first-term School Board member, Jasmin, no party, won the District 6 seat in November 2014, defeating Democrat Frieda Boughton with 53 percent of the vote.
