SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Real Salt Lake has two critical Major League Soccer matches this week, beginning with C-D Chivas U-S-A on Wednesday evening. R-S-L will host the Eastern Conference Leaders D- United on Saturday. Real Salt Lake is coming off a 1-oh loss on Saturday to F-C Dallas.
Abe Thompson scored his first goal of the year in the final minute stunning RSL.
Thompson beat defender Nikolas Besagno down the right side and forced goalkeeper Scott Garlick to come out of his net. Thompson, who entered the game as a substitute midway through the second half, played the ball around Garlick and scored in the 90th minute.
It was the third win in as many games for Western Conference-leading FC Dallas (11-5-3). Real Salt Lake (4-10-4) is in last place in the West.
Real Salt Lake controlled the flow of play for much of the game, and it appeared it would earn at least a point Saturday in front of an announced crowd of 20,227.
Besagno entered the game at the end of the first half as a substitute for defender Nelson Akwari, who was escorted off the field after a collision with Garlick. Akwari, a replacement for injured defender Danny Torres, left with a bruised hip.
The 17-year-old Besagno made just his second appearance of the season.
