RENO, Nev. (AP) — Donald Trump says he doesn't watch professional football much anymore because the NFL has gone "soft" like the United States. Republican presidential hopeful drew the analogy during a campaign speech to more than 3,000 people in Reno on yesterday while casino sportsbooks were jammed with fans across the street watching the NFL playoffs. Trump says "the whole game has become screwed up" because "football has become soft like the country has become soft."

LAS VEGAS (AP) — A former state lawmaker goes before a judge today on a drunken driving charge following his arrest last month in Las Vegas. Tom Collins was arrested late on Dec. 11 in a vehicle while leaving the National Finals Rodeo at the Thomas & Mack Center. The onetime Democratic state lawmaker and Clark County commissioner lives in North Las Vegas.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — UNLV basketball coach Dave Rice has resigned in the middle of his fifth season after the struggling Runnin' Rebels opened Mountain West Conference play with three straight losses. Associate head coach Todd Simon will serve as interim coach for the rest of the season. Rice was under pressure to win this season after UNLV failed to reach the NCAA Tournament for the second straight season in 2014-15.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Police say two people are dead and a third is injured after a two-car weekend crash in Las Vegas. Witnesses say a car was making a left turn from a northbound lane of Boulder Highway when a sedan struck it on the passenger side. The 81-year-old woman driving the first car and the man riding with her killed. The other driver was hospitalized with serious injuries. No names have been released.
