WATERVLIET, N.Y. (AP) — A man slain inside an upstate New York apartment last week was the son of a former NFL player.

The Times Union of Albany reports (bit.ly/1OdBiF7) 29-year-old Brandon Sherwin was the son of Tim Sherwin, a tight end who spent most of his career with the Baltimore and Indianapolis Colts from 1981-87.

Police in Watervliet (wah-ter-vuh-LEET'), just north of Albany, say they were called late Friday night to a two-family house for a report shots fired. When officers arrived on the scene a man had barricaded himself inside the house.

Officials say after a standoff that lasted into early Saturday morning, 49-year-old Michael Fox was taken into custody. Brandon Sherwin was found dead in Fox's apartment.

Fox was charged with second-degree murder. He's being held Monday in jail. It wasn't known if Fox had a lawyer who could comment on the charges.
