KENNEWICK, Wash. (AP) — The Kennewick School District must pay a family more than $200,000 after they pulled their autistic son from the district's schools and placed him in a residential treatment facility.
The Tri-City Herald reports (http://bit.ly/1VXuiiE ) the child's move came after ongoing incidents with his behavior. The child's parents, Eldon and Stephenie Monson, filed a civil case in 2012, seeking as much as $454,000 for the cost of placing their son in a private program.
The parents said the district failed to properly educate their son and evaluate his needs.
Last fall, an administrative law judge awarded the family $50,000, but the Monsons appealed that decision, saying the judge did not properly calculate the cost of their son's tuition.
The district declined to comment on the case.
