UNDATED (AP) — The Powerball lottery is in uncharted territory this week after no tickets matched all six Powerball numbers for last night's record jackpot of nearly $950 million. That means when the balls are drawn again on Wednesday, millions of ticket-holders will be hoping their numbers come up for the new top prize of at least $1.3 billion dollars. Last night's winning numbers were 16-19-32-34-57 and the Powerball number 13.
MEXICO CITY (AP) — A Mexican federal law enforcement official tells the Associated Press that an interview by actor Sean Penn for Rolling Stone magazine last year led authorities to the hiding place of the world's most notorious drug lord and two-time prison escape. Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman, who is now back in custody, says in the interview published yesterday that he's not to blame for high addiction rates, since nothing will change when he's gone.
CAIRO (AP) — Egypt has reached a milestone of governance -- the convening of its first legislature in more than three years. The 596-seat chamber packed with supporters of President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi held its inaugural session today, signaling the completion of a political road map first announced in 2013. It's the first elected chamber since el-Sissi, as military chief, led the ouster of Islamist President Mohammed Morsi in 2013 following massive protests.
KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — An Afghan official says Pakistan will present a list of Taliban willing to negotiate with Kabul at a four-nation meeting tomorrow aimed at reviving the Afghan peace process. Afghanistan, Pakistan, China and the United States are scheduled to meet in Islamabad to discuss a road map for peace talks. The meeting will not include Taliban representatives.
OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — Authorities in Oakland, California are looking for a man they say killed a passenger on a Bay Area Rapid Transit train. Witnesses say the gunman fled when the train stopped at a station last night.
