MONTICELLO, Utah (AP) — A San Juan County Sheriff's sergeant is being demoted for failing to respond to a domestic violence call involving a Monticello police officer and the man's estranged wife.
The sheriff's office says Joe Harris didn't act accordingly and now has a rank of deputy. He also received an unpaid 30-day suspension, which went into effect Friday.
Harris was placed on leave Dec. 14 after a delayed response to a call involving former police Sgt. Jesse Cole Young.
Young's wife told a 911 dispatcher that her husband had broken in, assaulted a man and was driving drunk.
Records indicate nobody responded to the call for several hours.
The dispatcher remains on paid leave pending a decision about any disciplinary action.
Young has since been fired and charged with burglary and assault.
