NORFOLK, Va. (AP) — Students who got hoverboards for Christmas won't be able to use them at least two Virginia schools.
WTKR-TV reports (bit.ly/1PVtUR9) that officials at Old Dominion University and William & Mary recently banned hoverboards on their campuses.
Old Dominion's policy cited "continuing reports highlighting the safety and fire risk" of the devices.
Sam Jones, of William & Mary's Emergency Team, told students that the decision is part of officials' effort to maintain a safe campus through its fire prevention program. William & Mary says its policy will be re-examined after a review by the Consumer Product Safety Commission.
