CLINTON, Miss. (AP) — The newly-elected Claiborne County School Board and state education officials have met to discuss the process of returning the school district to community control by July 1.
The board met Friday in Clinton with representatives of the Mississippi School Boards Association and the Mississippi Department of Education.
No action was taken, but board members learned about the process for returning the district to the community and training opportunities by the MSBA.
In September 2013, Gov. Phil Bryant signed an emergency declaration that allowed the state education department to remove the Claiborne County School Board and superintendent and appoint a conservator to oversee district operations. The state recently ruled accreditation violations have been corrected, asking Bryant to end the state of emergency.
Aberdeen, Leflore and Tunica counties remain under state control.
