NEW YORK (AP) — Cleveland pitcher Joseph Colon and Chicago Cubs pitcher P.J. Francescon have been suspended 50 games each under baseball's minor league drug program following second positive tests for a drug of abuse.
A right-hander who turns 26 next month, Colon was 3-0 with a 3.14 ERA in 32 relief appearances and one start for Double-A Akron and Triple-A Columbus. Cleveland said in November he was to attend big league spring training as a non-roster player.
Francescon, a 27-year-old right-hander, was 4-2 with a 1.69 ERA in 42 relief appearances last year for Double-A Tennessee. He also pitched shutout ball in one start and two relief appearances for Triple-A Iowa.
The suspensions, announced Friday, are the first this year. There were 108 suspensions last year under the minor league program.
