SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The parents of a South Jordan man struck and killed by a drunken driver on Interstate 215 are suing the bar where the woman allegedly bought drinks before the crash. The Salt Lake Tribune reports the lawsuit claims Piper Down Pub provided drinks to Chanel Nielsen on March 25 and continued to serve her when the bar should've known she was drunk. The parents of Michael McMillian Jr. are seeking an unspecified amount for pain and suffering and other damages.

OGDEN, Utah (AP) — A Utah woman sentenced to 16 years to life in prison for stabbing her girlfriend to death during a fight will be eligible for parole in nearly 24 years. The Standard-Examiner reports the state Board of Pardons has decided that Victoria Mendoza is in prison for the 2014 death of Tawnee Baird. The couple had been driving from Salt Lake City to Ogden when they began to argue and Mendoza stabbed Baird 46 times.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Court authorities are still examining the background of Utah teenager charged with luring a 12-year-old neighbor from her home and killing her. The 16-year-old West Valley City boy is facing charges of aggravated murder and rape of a child in last summer's death of Kailey Vijil (VIJ'-el). Prosecutors want to try him as an adult, but defense attorneys have raised questions about whether he's mentally competent to stand trial. He's due back in court April 12.

PROVO, Utah (AP) — Kyle Collinsworth had 21 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists for his NCAA-record ninth career triple-double, and BYU beat Santa Clara 97-61 last night in Provo. Nick Emery was 5 of 6 from 3-point range with 23 points.
