BOISE, Idaho (AP) — An Uzbek refugee authorities say had an unwavering commitment to kill personnel at a military base or civilians at crowded Fourth of July celebrations in downtown Boise, Idaho, has been sentenced to 25 years in prison. Fazliddin Kurbanov also received a $250,000 fine. Kurbanov maintained his innocence and told the court he wasn't a terrorist.

BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Gov. C. L. "Butch" Otter has announced a new $30 million program that would provide coverage for basic medical care to nearly 78,000 Idahoans that neither qualify for health insurance subsidies or Medicaid. The plan is a state-funded alternative to expand Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act — an option the Republican-dominated Idaho Statehouse has rejected repeatedly. Legislative leaders voiced support for the plan immediately following the Republican governor's announcement, but offered no promises it would pass.

BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Idaho Gov. C.L. "Butch" Otter has named Megan Ronk as the new state Department of Commerce director. Ronk, currently the chief operating officer for the department before her promotion, succeeds former director Jeff Sayer. Ronk's appointment is subject to confirmation by the Idaho Senate.

LEWISTON, Idaho (AP) — The U.S. Forest Service is planning salvage timber sales for trees damaged by fire in the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forest. The Lewiston Tribune reports that agency officials are streamlining the process to approve the removal of dead and dying trees scorched by the summer's wildfires. The first trees could be sold starting in February or early March, with more logging and sales to follow.
