Montana defeats Portland State 79-66 in Big Sky

MISSOULA, Mont. (AP) — Walter Wright scored a career-high 22 points, with nine assists, and Montana defeated Portland State 79-66 Thursday night, improving to 3-0 in the Big Sky.

Wright and his backcourt mates, Michael Oguine, 20 points, and Brandon Gfeller, 14, combined for 56 of the Grizzlies points. Gfeller hit all four of his 3-point tries. Martin Breunig scored 13 points with 12 rebounds for the Griz (8-6), who shot 29 of 51 from the field (57 percent) with 11 3-pointers.

Sophomore Isaiah Pineiro scored 20 points for Portland State (5-8, 1-1), which saw its two-game win streak come to an end. Calaen Robinson added 16, hitting four treys for the Vikings.

Portland State trimmed a 21-point deficit to 10, trailing 75-65 with 2:49 left in the game after Pineiro scored five straight points, but the Vikings missed their last five shots.

Montana's won four in a row.
