In tonight's televised town hall meeting on ways to stop gun violence in America, he accused the NRA of peddling an "imaginary fiction" that "somebody's going to come grab your guns." He blamed the false notion of a federal government conspiracy on the NRA and like-minded groups.
BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) — Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump says he would eliminate gun-free zones in schools on his first day if he's elected to the White House. He describes a gun-free zone as "bait" for "a sicko." Trump was addressing a rally in Burlington, Vermont, tonight as President Barack Obama was speaking at a televised town hall on gun violence in America.
SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — Two people are being held on terrorism-related charges in California and Texas. One is a refugee from Iraq who's charged with lying to federal investigators about his travels to Syria. He was arrested today in Sacramento. Meanwhile, the governor and lieutenant governor of Texas are praising the arrest in Houston of another person they describe as a terror suspect.
HONG KONG (AP) — Chinese stocks are still volatile. A day after rattling global markets with a 7 percent plunge and trading suspension on Thursday, The Shanghai Composite Index gained about 3 percent when it opened Friday but quickly surrendered those gains to be slightly lower. The turmoil in China also triggered a sell-off in Asian and Western stocks on Thursday.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Baby formula is a major expense for many new parents and the recent arrests in Utah of three people accused of stealing thousands of dollars' worth of formula is posing a serious problem for stores and law enforcement. The high price and broad demand for formula make it an enticing target for thieves, who typically sell it at flea markets or online.
