RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — The head of Brazil's football confederation is set to go on leave for up to five months just days after returning to his post from a break to work on his defense against charges in the wide-ranging FIFA scandal.
Marco Polo Del Nero was one of 16 soccer officials to be indicted as part of the FIFA probe being led by American and Swiss authorities. He is accused of racketeering and money laundering.
Del Nero took leave for 45 days before returning to announce the 79-year-old Antonio Carlos Nunes as interim president, replacing Marcus Vicente.
In a statement the CBF says Del Nero is taking leave "for personal reasons" beginning on Friday.
