MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — A health department in Alabama is looking to stop the tuberculosis outbreak by paying people to find exposed patients in Perry County.

The Alabama Department of Public Health announced Thursday that the Perry County Health Department will pay tuberculosis screening and treatment to people. Tests will be given from Jan. 11-29.

The department says $20 will be given each time to people who are screened for tuberculosis; those that return after three days for the result; and for keeping an appointment to receive a chest X-ray if recommended.

An additional $100 will be given to a patient if it is recommended to those who take medication and treatment is completed.

Symptoms of tuberculosis include cough lasting more than two weeks, night sweats, shortness of breath, fever, weight loss and fatigue.
