PULLMAN, Wash. (AP) — Washington State University officials are banning hoverboards from all buildings on all WSU campuses and other school-owned facilities.
That's in response to instances in which batteries on the hoverboards have burst into flames.
The ban announced Thursday prohibits the storage and possession of hoverboards in residence halls, university apartments, academic buildings, research buildings and recreational facilities.
Similar safety concerns have prompted major U.S. airlines to ban the devices on their flights.
WSU Fire Marshall Rod Holmes says students are being asked to not bring hoverboards with them as they return next week for the new semester.
