WARSAW, Ind. (AP) — A northern Indiana school district canceled classes after a fire heavily damaged its transportation building.
Warsaw Community Schools Superintendent David Hoffert says the fire broke out about 5:45 a.m. Thursday. He says five buses were destroyed in the fire: two full-size buses, a transit bus and two smaller buses used for special needs students. He says officials believe a sixth bus inside was not damaged. He says the main loss is the building and the service equipment.
Hoffert says the school district located about 40 miles west of Fort Wayne has 72 buses overall, including six new buses that arrived Wednesday. He says classes are expected to resume Friday.
He says the cause of the fire is under investigation, but foul play does not appear to be involved.
