NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) — Makai Mason matched his career high with 24 points as Yale defeated NJIT 83-65 on Wednesday night, winning its third straight game.
Nick Victor added 16 points with four 3-pointers, Sam Downey 15 and Justin Sears 13 with seven assists for Yale (8-5), which remains perfect at home, now at 3-0.
Damon Lynn scored 22 to lead the Highlanders (9-7), Tim Coleman added 16 and Ky Howard 10.
Yale led 38-33 at halftime and outscored NJIT 10-2 to open the second half, Victor hitting one of his four 3-pointers along with three free throws. The Highlanders were unable to get closer than 12 points after that and their shooting percentage tailed off from 54 percent before halftime to 36 after.
Yale shot 27 for 57 (47 percent) with 22 assists. The Bulldogs sank 10 3-pointers and outrebounded NJIT 35-28 with 20 second-chance points. Yale made 10 turnovers — only four in the first half — to NJIT's 16.
