Payton staying as Saint coach...AP Source: Gordon has new deal...Brady's ankle is better

METAIRIE, La. (AP) — Saints coach Sean Payton says he's remaining with New Orleans, ending speculation that he could be on the move after consecutive 7-9 seasons. He took over the job in 2009 and has posted an 87-57 regular season record with five playoff appearances and a Super Bowl title. Payton said he plans on finishing his career in New Orleans.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — A person familiar with the deal says All-Star outfielder Alex Gordon has agreed to a four-year, $72 million contract to remain with the World Series champion Kansas City Royals. Gordon declined an option for $13.75 million to test free agency. He hit .271 with 13 homers and 48 RBIs in an injury dotted season, though he did get voted to his third consecutive All-Star Game.

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) — New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady says his right ankle is feeling better. Brady walked without an apparent limp for his media availability today. He said getting the week off before the Patriots' first playoff game will be helpful. Brady was injured in the season-closing loss to Miami Sunday.

NEW YORK (AP) — New York Jets defensive end Muhammad Wilkerson says he is having surgery today to repair his broken right leg. The Pro Bowl selection broke his fibula in the Jets' 22-17 loss at Buffalo last Sunday. Wilkerson had a career-high 12 sacks in his fifth NFL season and is scheduled to be a free agent this offseason.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) —Florida State kicker Roberto Aguayo says he will declare for the NFL draft and skip his senior season. He set an NCAA record by making .9673 of all his kicks. Aguayo made all 198 of his extra-point attempts and was 69 of 78 on field goals.
