ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) — The Wegmans grocery store chain is recalling more than 1,000 pounds of chicken shipped to six states.
A federal inspector found that Rochester, New York-based Wegmans altered its production schedule and produced chicken products outside the approved hours of operation. Chicken products produced on Sunday were never inspected.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture announced Tuesday night that it had issued a Class 1 recall, which means there is "a reasonable probability" that consuming the product will result in serious, adverse health consequences or death.
No health problems have yet been confirmed.
The chicken was shipped to distribution and retail locations in Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Virginia.
The chain is offering full refunds for eligible products.
