SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. (AP) — Jessica January had 13 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists to help No. 24 DePaul beat 25th-ranked Seton Hall 86-74 on Tuesday night.
Chanise Jenkins added 21 points for the Blue Demons (11-5, 3-0 Big East), who led by 32 early in the third quarter before holding off a furious rally.
It was the first time in program history that Seton Hall had a home game involving two ranked teams. It was also a rematch of last season's Big East tournament championship game which the Blue Demons won 78-68. The Pirates almost pulled off a historic rally to secure the best start in school history.
Trailing by 25 with just under two minutes left in the third, Seton Hall scored 17 straight to cut its deficit to 66-58. The Blue Demons scored five straight to restore a double-digit advantage with six minutes left.
Aleesha Powell's 3-pointer with 2:56 left made it a seven-point game, but that's as close as Seton Hall (13-2, 3-1) would get.
