PHOENIX (AP) — The campaign for a proposition to provide Arizona schools with billions of dollars has raised nearly $2 million thus far.

Voters will decide whether to pass Proposition 123 in a special election on May 17. The proposition would pump $3.5 billion into K-12 education over the next decade to settle a long-running lawsuit stemming from the state's decision to raid school spending during the Great Recession.

The Arizona Capitol Times reports (http://bit.ly/1SxfKq2 ) that the pro-Prop 123 group Let's Vote Yes for Arizona's Schools has raised about $1.75 million in its first two months of fundraising.

The largest contributors were GoDaddy founder Bob Parsons and his wife, Renee, who each gave $250,000 to the campaign. Greater Phoenix Leadership has given $220,000, and the Helios Education Foundation has contributed $100,000.
