BOISE, Idaho (AP) — The Simplot family has announced that the hilltop mansion — offered as Idaho's governor's residence — will soon be demolished. A Simplot family spokesman says work to remove the 7,400-square-foot Boise home will take place over the next 10 days. J.R. Simplot, the deceased billionaire, donated the home to Idaho in 2004. However, the state returned it to the family in 2013 after it became too costly to maintain. No governor ever lived in the house despite being the designated residence.

COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho (AP) — The Kootenai County Prosecutor's Office will seek the death penalty for a man who is accused of killing a police officer and stealing his patrol car in northern Idaho. The Spokesman-Review reports that prosecutors filed a notice to try the slaying as a capital crime. Jonathan Renfro's trial is scheduled to begin Sept. 6.

TWIN FALLS, Idaho (AP) — Prosecutors have until Feb. 29 to decide whether to file their intent to seek the death penalty against a man accused of a fatal shooting in Twin Falls. Jacob Marshall, of Jackson, is charged with six felony counts including murder and murder conspiracy in connection to the July 25 death of 53-year-old Kent Storrer.

SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — An Indian tribe in Washington state has become the first in the Lower 48 to hire a dental therapist to provide basic oral health services. In a move opposed by the Washington State Dental Association, the Swinomish Indian Tribal Community is offering the services of a dental therapist to its members. Dental therapists are licensed and can perform simple procedures such as cleanings, filling cavities and simple extractions.
