SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A Utah judge who had ordered a baby girl taken away from her lesbian foster parents and placed with a heterosexual couple has retired. Court officials say juvenile court Judge Scott Johansen retired on Friday. Johansen faced widespread criticism and calls for his impeachment after he ordered a 9-month-old baby taken from the home of April Hoagland and Beckie Peirce on Nov. 10. He later reversed the ruling and recused himself. He did not immediately return a call seeking comment.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Police say the driver of a car that collided with a light rail train in Salt Lake City has died. The Deseret News reports that that nine people aboard the TRAX light rail train went to the hospital with minor injuries suffered in a collision that derailed the train in downtown Salt Lake City. The man's identity has not been released.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A dog that fell through ice on a Utah pond is doing well after being rescued from the cold water. Firefighters say the dog was on a walk with a woman and a child in a Herriman subdivision when it ran away to chase ducks on a man-made pond. Authorities say the animal was in the mid-30-degree water for about 15 minutes before rescue crews jumped in to save him.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah defensive coordinator John Pease has announced he is retiring. The university says assistant coach Morgan Scalley has been promoted to defensive coordinator to replace him. Scalley has been the safeties coach and special teams coordinator. He's been the recruiting coordinator the last seven seasons.
