CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — The latest on a Sunday night shooting that left one man dead and a Charlotte police officer with a gunshot wound to the ankle:
4:30 p.m.
Charlotte police say officers shot and killed a man they were trying to arrest on a murder charge.
Police said in a news release that 30-year-old Germonta Wallace shot at detectives trying to arrest him Sunday night outside a home in west Charlotte. Several officers fired back, killing Wallace.
Investigators say Wallace was wanted in the death of Norris Martin, whose body was found in a burning car in neighboring Gaston County on Wednesday.
Police say eight officers have been placed on administrative leave as investigators try to determine who fired shots and whether the shooting was legal and followed department policy. One officer was hit in the ankle, but is expected to recover.
Authorities say a second man with Wallace, 29-year-old Marquez Springs-Owens did not shoot at officers and surrendered peacefully. He has also been charged with murder in Martin's death.

Police in North Carolina say one person was killed and a police officer suffered an ankle injury when shooting broke out as police tried to serve an arrest warrant at a Charlotte home.
A statement from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department says officers tried to serve the warrant around 9 p.m. Sunday when several people began shooting at them.
Multiple news outlets reported that police fired back and hit one person, who was later pronounced dead.
The names of the person killed and the injured officer haven't been released.
Police Chief Kerr Putney told reporters at the scene late Sunday that everyone in the home had come outside and were being interviewed to determine who had fired at the officers.
No charges have been filed.
