LAS VEGAS (AP) — Visit Las Vegas in 2015? Count yourself among the more than 42 million people traveling to the casino corridor last year. The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority says it's a number that breaks 2014's record visitation for the destination. The group announced shortly before New Year's that it expected to break the 2014 record of 41.1 million people.
CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Nevada energy regulators are meeting this week to decide whether to hold off on new rates for solar power customers. The Public Utilities Commission has scheduled a hearing Thursday for the rates, which were set to take effect Jan. 1. Critics say there wasn't enough warning about the scope of the rate structure.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — Police have arrested two people in connection with the fatal shooting of a California man outside a northwest Las Vegas gym. Authorities say 27-year-old Kyle Staats and 19-year-old Megan Hippie are being held on first-degree murder, attempted robbery with a deadly weapon and conspiracy to commit robbery. Staats also faces one count of possession of a stolen vehicle. It was not known if either suspect had an attorney.
VIRGINIA CITY, Nev. (AP) — A Storey County Sheriff's deputy was shot while responding to a domestic violence call in Virginia City. KOLO-TV in Reno reports that Sheriff Gerald Antinoro says 51-year-old Charles Stutts fired numerous rounds from a rifle as deputies arrived. One deputy was hit and another person also at the scene. He says the deputy returned fire, leading to Stutts surrendering without incident.
