LEXINGTON, Va. (AP) — Jace Hogan scored 17 points and grabbed 8 rebounds to help lead Navy to a 68-62 victory over VMI on Saturday.
Tim Abruzzo finished with 14 points and Tilman Dunbar added 13 for Navy (8-3), which has won eight of their last nine including a perfect 5-0 on the road.
Navy had an 18-4 run in the first half, capped by an Abruzzo 3-pointer, and led 30-21 at the break.
But VMI (3-6) battled back in the second half, tying the score at 54 after a QJ Peterson jumper with 3:26 to go. However the Keydets never got over the hump and a 7-0 Midshipman spurt over the next two minutes, all of which came at the free throw line, effectively put the game away.
Peterson scored 20 points to lead VMI. Tim Marshall added 14 for the Keydets, who have lost four of five games.
