JONESBORO, Ark. (AP) — An armed man drove onto Arkansas State University's campus today and was surrounded by police without any shots fired, according to a university spokesman. The school sent an alert this afternoon urging the evacuation of the student union. A later tweet said there were no shots fired or any reports of injuries.

BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl says he went missing from his military base in Afghanistan because he wanted to bring attention to what he saw as a "leadership failure" at his post. Bergdahl, who was taken prisoner by the Taliban and released in a prisoner swap, spoke in an interview featured in a podcast. He's charged with desertion and misbehavior with the enemy.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama has signed a sweeping overhaul of the No Child Left Behind education law. Obama praised the George W. Bush-era law for having the right goals. But the president said that in practice, it fell short or applied a cookie-cutter approach that failed to produce desired results.

BOSTON (AP) — A Boston transit train somehow managed to start moving without its driver. It went through four stations without stopping until officials brought it to a halt by cutting power. None of the 50 or so passengers was hurt. Officials suspect tampering, although negligence is also being considered.

DETROIT (AP) — Fiat Chrysler Automobiles will pay a $70 million fine to the U.S. government for failing to report safety data. The fine is in addition to a $105 million penalty levied against Fiat Chrysler earlier this year for its mishandling of 23 recalls involving 11 million vehicles.
