CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — A Chinese-backed electric carmaker plans to build a $1 billion manufacturing plant outside Las Vegas. A letter to Nevada officials that The Associated Press obtained says the company will build in North Las Vegas. The letter is signed by billionaire Chinese investor Jia Yueting (ZHAW' YOO'-weh-ting), a major financial backer of California-based Faraday Future. Nevada officials scheduled a news conference today to formally announce the deal.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Republican presidential candidate Marco Rubio is moving his pre-debate rally in Las Vegas to a different location. Rubio's campaign says Monday afternoon rally is being held in a ballroom at the Renaissance Las Vegas hotel. The rally comes a day before Rubio and several other Republican presidential hopefuls appear for a CNN debate at The Venetian Las Vegas hotel-casino owned by billionaire Republican donor Sheldon Adelson.

NELLIS AIR FORCE BASE, Nev. (AP) — Las Vegas police have arrested the person who reported a bomb in a vehicle at the main gate of the Nellis Air Force Base. Authorities say the Nellis bomb squad determined the threat was unfounded. The person who came to the main gate about three hours earlier said there was a bomb in his or her vehicle.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Police say a man appears to have been shot dead near an access road in northwest Las Vegas next to U.S. route 95. Las Vegas police say officers responded to a call that a dead body had been found. Authorities say they don't know the motive for the shooting and have not identified a suspect or suspect.
