WASHINGTON (AP) — Republican presidential candidates are responding to fellow candidate Donald Trump's plan to bar Muslims from other countries from entering the U.S. Jeb Bush is calling Trump "unhinged." Ben Carson says everyone visiting the U.S. should register and be monitored, but he says he doesn't "advocate being selective on one's religion." Carly Fiorina says, "Trump's overreaction is as dangerous as President Obama's under-reaction."

BRUSSELS (AP) — France is urging its European Union partners to speed up efforts to cut off funds to extremists groups. French Finance Minister Michel Sapin says, "Every country is under threat of terrorism, and every country has to do what is needed to fight terror financing." Sapin and his EU counterparts are meeting in Brussels to debate ways to better track financial transfers, control prepaid bank cards, freeze assets and limit movements of cash and precious metals.

LONDON (AP) — The family of a man suspected in a stabbing at an east London subway station says he had mental problems and they contacted the police weeks before the attack. The brother of 29-year-old Muhaydin Mire tells a local TV station (Channel 4 News) that Mire had spent three months in a hospital after being diagnosed with paranoia in 2007 and that his problems resurfaced in August when he began to speak about seeing "demons and stuff." Mire allegedly screamed "this is for Syria" while slashing a passenger's neck.

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) — Police in Rochester, New York, say they have no idea why two New York college students were abducted over the weekend as they were traveling in an SUV. Six people are now facing charges of first-degree kidnapping. Police say Nicholas Kollias and Ani Okeke Ewo were abducted and held hostage, and one was shot in the leg. They were rescued by a SWAT team Sunday night.

ALEXANDRIA, Va. (AP) — A jury in Virginia has awarded a Muslim cab driver $350,000 in damages after saying a passenger berated and attacked him because of his religion. The jury in federal court in Alexandria found that Ed Dahlberg assaulted Mohamed Salim in 2013 and that Dahlberg's actions were motivated by animosity toward Salim's faith. On Monday they awarded Salim $100,000 in compensatory damages and $250,000 in punitive damages. Salim says he was punched and insulted.
