WARSAW, Poland (AP) — A prosecutor in southern Poland says a Ukrainian man has been put under arrest on a request from the U.S. where he is wanted on suspicion of stealing and laundering at least $10 million.
Boguslaw Marcinkowska, spokeswoman for the prosecutors in Krakow, said Tuesday that the 45-year-old man, identified only as Oleksander K., was put under arrest last week, until mid-January, pending further requests from the U.S.
Marcinkowska told The Associated Press the man was arrested in the Krakow area last week on a U.S. request that says he participated in money laundering, thefts and transfer of stolen property to foreign countries, crimes that carry up to 20 years in prison.
She said the U.S. has indicated it will seek the man's extradition.
