CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) — Oregon State University's president has announced plans to hire a chief diversity officer in response to students' concerns about racism on campus.

The Corvallis Gazette-Times reports (http://goo.gl/oXYthR ) President Ed Ray issued a letter Monday to the OSU community detailing several plans for addressing the issue.

The chief diversity officer will manage the university's efforts to promote diversity, equity and inclusion. The position is expected to be filled on an interim basis by the end of January.

Ray also said OSU would create an office to oversee the university's diversity inclusion programs.

The president's letter comes after more than 500 people attended a student-organized forum held in November. Students who gathered at Gill Coliseum discussed their experiences in dealing with acts of racism on campus.
