SALT LAKE CITY — U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials Tuesday announced the results of a six-day operation that resulted in 235 illegal immigrants being arrested in four Western states, including 111 in Utah.

According to a press release from ICE, the agency's Enforcement and Removal Operations targeted "potentially deportable criminals" during its operation in Utah, Nevada, Idaho and Montana.

"All of the foreign nationals targeted by ICE ERO officers during last week's enforcement action had prior criminal convictions. Many had criminal histories that included convictions for serious or violent offenses, such as child sex crimes and assault," according to the release.

Daniel Bible, the field office director for the agency's Enforcement and Removal Operations Salt Lake City, said all but seven of the people arrested in Utah had prior criminal convictions. The others either had a current federal warrant for their arrest, had made "significant abuses" of the visa program or had illegally entered the United States after Jan. 1, 2014, which made them a "priority" under the department's guidelines.
