Recently it was reported that July 13th 2002 was the hottest temp. ever recorded in SLC at 107 degrees. Because I'm old I recall that in July of 1960 (24th or 25th I believe) a temperature of 107 degrees was also recorded. Do I remember correctly?? Did the 2002 temp. equal/tie the 1960 record, or are there tenths of degrees involved here??

A fitting question for the recent July heat for sure. Ok here's the deal, first, let's look up what we have for records over the NWS and see what we find.
Yes, on July 13th of 2002 it was 107 degrees, this is the most RECENT highest temperature for this date. This has also occurred in earlier years. July of 1960 was the warmest July on record for the average high temperature of the month. July's normal max temperature average is 90.6 and in July 1960, it came in at 98.2, that's some hot stuff!
On July 26th 1960, the high temperature was also 107 degrees in Salt Lake, so your memory is serving you right.
When we report the records on our almanac page, we report the most recent occurrence of that record. On some days, the record has been tied two to four times, we can't fit all of those years on one graphic, it would just be too much information to put in such a small space.
Good job remembering the hot July of 1960. As of today, July 18th (not including today's high) our average max temperature is sitting at 95.4, making it about 4.8 degrees warmer than an average July for high temperatures.
