BELLEFONTAINE, Ohio (AP) — An Ohio man charged with sexually assaulting his wife when she a teenager, who authorities say later suffocated her three young sons, is in jail on $100,000 bond.

An indictment says 43-year-old Joseph Pilkington of Bellefontaine (behl-FOWN'-tihn) was considered the woman's stepfather when he impregnated her in 2009 when she was 17.

The woman, 23-year-old Brittany Pilkington, has pleaded not guilty to three counts of aggravated murder and could face a death sentence if convicted.

A Logan County judge set bond for Joseph Pilkington on Friday but delayed a court hearing until Monday because Pilkington does not yet have a lawyer.

The Associated Press doesn't generally identify people who say they are victims of sexual assault, but Brittany Pilkington's name and image were widely published following her arrest in her sons' deaths.
