RIVERHEAD, N.Y. (AP) — Officials say a Long Island high school teacher charged with driving while under the influence of drugs has been reassigned to a new position that doesn't involve interacting with students.
Newsday reports (http://nwsdy.li/1KeCkjx ) 36-year-old Eric Sweet was found unconscious in his vehicle by Riverhead police in a McDonald's parking lot on state Route 25A around noon on Aug. 31.
Police say the car was still in drive.
Sweet, formerly a social studies teacher at Connetquot High School in Bohemia, was charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs and two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance, among others.
Connetquot Central School District Superintendent Lynda Adams said reassigning Sweet was the only legal action the district could take at this time.
Sweet did not return requests for comment.
