The so-called Nevada High-Speed Rail Authority is charged with leading a thorough discussion on the topic, which Sandoval said is an important part of the state keeping its competitive edge.

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Nevada higher education board members aren't taking any disciplinary action against the college system's leader over how he handled an outside consultant's report. Klaich was accused of inappropriately whitewashing a consultant's draft report that was critical of Nevada's community college system. The controversy was first reported by the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Obama administration has approved plans by 16 states, including Nevada, to help give all students — regardless of race, ethnicity or economic background -- access to the best teachers. The Education Department says some states are boosting education preparation programs, while others are providing more mentoring for new teachers. All 50 states submitted plans as a requirement of the Bush-era No Child Left Behind education law.

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) — Mobile food trucks, revamped lodges and possibly a valet service are coming to the Grand Canyon's South Rim under a new 15-year concessions contract. The park has announced that it has awarded the contract worth about $1 billion over its lifetime to Xanterra South Rim, LLC. The contract is pending review by Congress.
