EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. (AP) — The Minnesota Vikings have been a busy team. First they placed center John Sullivan on the injured reserve list with a designation to return because of a bad back. Then came news that they had signed wide receiver Jarius Wright to a four-year contract extension.
NEW YORK (AP) — The women's semifinals scheduled for tonight at the U.S. Open have been rained out. The plan now is for a long day of tennis tomorrow with the women's semi's up first followed by the men's.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — The Phillies have fired general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. The club has the worst record in the majors at 54-86 and for the fourth straight season will miss the playoffs after winning five consecutive National League East titles.
EVIAN-LES-BAINS, France (AP) — First-round play at the LPGA's Evian (ay-vee-AWN') Championship in France is over. The lead is shared by Lexi Thompson of the U.S. and South Korea's Mi Hyang Lee at 5-under 66. Three players, including American Gerina Piller, are tied for third at minus-4.
