NEW ORLEANS (AP) — A smaller than expected number of jobs will be lost from the Orleans Parish School system under Superintendent Henderson Lewis's proposed 2015-2016 budget.
Lewis had once said the cut would involve as many as 25 of more than 100 positions. But the latest proposal calls for a drop to 92 employees.

Ten years after Hurricane Katrina spurred a major state school takeover, the School Board is in charge of only about one quarter of the city's 80-plus public schools. Most of the rest are part of the Recovery School District. Almost all the city's schools are charters that handle most of their own operations, academics and hiring.
