WASHINGTON (AP) — The New York Mets stretched their lead in the NL East to seven games over Washington by completing a three-game sweep of the Nationals. The Nats led 2-1 in the eighth until Kelly Johnson hit a solo homer and Yoenis Cespedes (yoh-EH'-nihs SEHS'-peh-dehs) delivered the tiebreaking, two-run blast in the Mets' 5-3 triumph at Washington. Cespedes went 6-for-14 with two homers, three doubles and seven RBIs in the series.

UNDATED (AP) — The Cardinals maintained their 4 ½-game lead in the NL Central by beating the Cubs 4-3 before Pittsburgh knocked off Cincinnati, 5-4. Matt Carpenter sparked the Cards' three-run eighth with an RBI single before scoring on Stephen Piscotty's go-ahead, two-run double. Jung Ho Kang (gahng) snapped a 1-1 tie with a grand slam in the sixth inning of the Pirates' victory.

UNDATED (AP) — Albert Pujols (POO'-hohlz) slapped a tiebreaking, RBI single in the bottom of the eighth to send the Angels to a 3-2 win over the Dodgers. The Dodgers continue to lead the NL West by 8 ½ games over the Giants, who were 2-1 losers at Arizona. Rookie Miguel Sano (sah-NOH') cracked his 16th homer of the season to snap a 2-2 tie in the 12th inning of Minnesota's 3-2 victory at Kansas City, which trims the Royals' lead in the AL Central to 11 games over the Twins.

UNDATED (AP) — Toronto and the New York Yankees lost on Wednesday, keeping the Blue Jays 1 ½ games ahead of the Yanks in the AL East. Steve Pearce smacked a tiebreaking, solo homer in the eighth inning as Baltimore downed the New York Yankees for the second straight night, 5-3. David Ortiz crushed a three-run homer and Mookie Metts added a solo shot and three RBIs as Boston clobbered the Jays, 10-4.

UNDATED (AP) — The Houston Astros have padded their lead in the AL West, moving two games ahead of Texas with an 11-5 win at Oakland. Colby Rasmus, Evan Gattis, Carlos Gomez and Marwin Gonzalez homered for the Astros, who also got four RBIs from Hank Conger. Vidal Nuno combined with two relievers on a one-hitter as the Mariners blanked Texas 6-0, leaving the Rangers with a 1 ½-game lead over Minnesota for the final AL wild-card berth.
