BREAUX BRIDGE, La. (AP) — A Louisiana man has been charged with attempted manslaughter after crashing his car into a fence while a police officer was hanging onto the driver's side door.

The Breaux Bridge Police Department arrested 33-year-old Donald Clement Jr. on charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and several traffic violations. Authorities later obtained a warrant for his arrest on charges of manslaughter and resisting an officer with force.

According to The Advocate (http://bit.ly/1KaZreS ), state police say the deputy approached Clement's vehicle about 12 a.m. Tuesday while investigating suspected drug activity. When the deputy identified himself, Clement drove about 500 feet with the deputy hanging onto the driver's side door before crashing into a fence and fleeing on foot.

The deputy was hospitalized with severe injuries.
