WASHINGTON (AP) — The United States is prepared to increase the number of refugees it resettles as European countries struggle to accommodate refugees from the Middle East and Africa. Sources say Secretary of State John Kerry told members of Congress that the United States will boost its worldwide quota for resettling refugees from 70,000 to 75,000 next year, and that number could rise.
WASHINGTON (AP) — The State Department has failed to deliver nearly 70 pages of documents to The Associated Press, as instructed by a federal judge. The messages concern Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton's hiring of longtime aide Huma Abedin as a special government contract staffer. The department provided only seven pages of emails.
SEATTLE (AP) — There will be no classes again tomorrow for tens of thousands of public school students in Seattle as teachers will remain on strike. A District spokeswoman says both sides would be back at the negotiating table in the morning. Both sides are far apart on pay raises, teacher evaluations and the length of the school day.
SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — The California state Assembly has approved legislation that would allow terminally ill patients to legally end their lives. The vote followed an emotional and deeply personal debate. The proposal now goes to the California Senate, which is expected to endorse it.
