SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Authorities say aircraft fighting a wildfire burning near Deer Creek Reservoir returned to the skies today after being grounded by an unmanned drone yesterday. The blaze has spread to 740 acres and is about 5 percent contained. The drone disappeared from the area about 30 miles southeast of Salt Lake City in Wasatch County, but authorities are investigating who was flying it.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A federal judge has ordered the Utah Republican Party and state officials to bring in a mediator to settle a dispute over a new law changing how political parties nominate candidates. The judge says resolving the lawsuit through mediation will be faster and cheaper than letting it play out in court as state officials are preparing to run 2016 elections.
OGDEN, Utah (AP) — An Ogden man has been given the maximum prison sentence in connection with the 2013 shooting death of another man at a party. The Standard-Examiner reports 42-year-old Ruben Nava III was found guilty of manslaughter in June. A judge on Tuesday gave him the maximum sentence, two to 15 years in prison for manslaughter and up to five years for illegal possession of a firearm.
