RENO, Nev. (AP) — Republican state Sen. Greg Brower will not seek re-election in his northern Nevada district in 2016. Brower told newspapers that it was a challenge to balance his legislative duties with his full-time job as a lawyer at the firm Snell & Wilmer. Brower told the Reno Gazette-Journal that it was time to give someone else a chance to serve.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — A court date was reset to Monday for a 24-year-old Las Vegas man facing five felony drunken driving charges in a fiery three-vehicle crash that killed a shuttle bus driver and a German tourist. Police say Jonathan Donner of Las Vegas remains hospitalized in custody. Killed were Jose Cosenza of Las Vegas and a German man whose name wasn't made public pending notification of relatives.
RENO, Nev. (AP) — Authorities are looking for suspects in a drive-by shooting who fired more than a dozen shots into a Reno residence. KRNV-TV reports police say two suspects had fired about 14 shots at a house with people inside at the time of the shooting. No injuries have been reported. Investigators believe the shooting is gang-related.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — The Southern Nevada Health District says seven salmonella cases in Nevada, including four in Clark County, may be tied to an outbreak related to cucumbers that has sickened 285 people in 27 states and killed a California woman. The Las Vegas Sun reports that Andrew & Williamson Fresh Produce of San Diego recalled its "Limited Edition" brand cucumbers, which are imported from Mexico. The company says none of its other produce has been affected by the recall.
