JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) — Gov. Bill Walker has chosen Deena Paramo to serve on the University of Alaska Board of Regents.

Paramo is the superintendent of the Matanuska-Susitna Borough School District. In a release Wednesday, Walker said the borough is one of the fastest-growing areas of Alaska and it's important that the governing body for the university system has representation from that region.

The appointment is subject to confirmation by the Legislature.

Walker's office says Paramo will fill the remainder of the term vacated by Michael Powers, who was recently appointed interim chancellor of the University of Alaska Fairbanks.
