INDIANA, Pa. (AP) — An Indiana University of Pennsylvania fraternity has been temporarily suspended by its national governing body after a student was charged with raping a woman there last month.
Police in Indiana, Pennsylvania, say that 19-year-old William Rice Scott, of Ellwood City, assaulted the woman at the Sigma Chi fraternity house on Aug. 28.
Scott is not a member or pledge of the fraternity. Though he was a student at the time of the alleged rape, he's no longer enrolled at IUP, a state-run university about 45 miles northeast of Pittsburgh.
The suspension means the fraternity cannot recruit new members, conduct meetings, or conduct charitable or social events.
Scott faces a preliminary hearing Oct. 13 on charges including rape and involuntary deviate sexual intercourse. His attorney, William Difenderfer, couldn't be reached for comment Wednesday.
